St. John Fisher College, also known as SJFC or simply Fisher, is a liberal arts college located in Pittsford in the state of New York. Pittsford is an eastern suburb of Rochester. The school was established in 1948 by the Basilan Fathers as a men’s college. In 1968, the school became independent of the Roman Catholic Church. Soon after, in 1971, the college became coeducational. Fisher College is made up of five schools. These include: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. School of Education, the Wegmans School of Nursing, and the Wegmans School of Pharmacy. Fisher offers its students more than 30 undergrad majors, 10 masters programs, and 3 doctoral programs.
Almost all of the incoming freshman students receive some form of financial aid from the school. There are also scholarships based on the needs and merits of incoming students. Fisher also offers loans, grants, and part-time employment to the eligible students that need it the most. The most notable scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen includes the First Generation scholarship and the Service Scholarship.
St John Fisher College competes in NCAA Division III level events. The school is a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference or the ECAC, the Empire 8 conference, and the Liberty League (a rowing league). The school also fields men’s and women’s varsity teams in baseball, lacrosse, basketball, cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, rowing, soccer, tennis, football, and golf. Fisher also features one of the top athletic facilities in the state. The Growney Stadium is home for Fisher's soccer, football, and lacrosse teams. The school colors are gold and cardinal red and the school nickname are the Cardinals.
